T.G.I.M.

Thank God it's Monday (almost)! I ended up working more than I expected this weekend when scheduling confusion left an open shift from 7p-10p last night. There was a full moon last night, one resident got sent to the hospital, another fell, and I didn't get out til 10:45! I didn't mind, however. I like the girl that I was working with, and that makes a huge difference in that place. No falls today, thank goodness, but I am always happy on Sunday's knowing I won't have to go back to work for a while.

The ring bearer's pillow is almost done, I'm sewing it inside out, and I'm worried that it won't be even at all when I flip it over. We shall see.

Ryan and I really need to get our passport photo's taken soon, we have to get our passports renewed for the honeymoon to Thailand. 10 years sure flew by from the time my passport was issued.

We are having a corn noodle casserole tonight, which should be pretty good according to the reviews on allrecipes.com. Maybe I'll post a picture later if I can remember to take one and find some batteries for the camera.

A pillow for Josh

...To carry down the aisle, that is! I am attempting to make a ring-bearer's pillow. I picked up some scrap fabric and a button from JoAnn's, I had the stuffing, thread, and crystals already. Wish me luck. The veil was kind of a bust.

I wanted a snack during this, Chex Mix. To avoid getting my fingers dirty and transferring it to the fabric, I had to improvise some chopsticks!

Pride and Prejudice. And Hockey.

For the past week or so I have been reading Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. I downloaded onto my Kindle App for the iPod Touch. The Kindle App is my favorite, I am reading again thanks to its portability and convenience.

I'm enjoying the book, which surprises me. Traditionally when it comes to taste in reading and movies I shy away from anything British, and anything before 1920. I'm having trouble keeping some of the characters straight, as well as some of the places, but so far I can tell why it's a classic. In other news...I'm fighting a head cold that began yesterday. Ryan and I agree that we can tell if we are sick by one sneeze. A "sick sneeze" versus a regular sneeze. Sure enough I've been popping cough drops all day and the skin on my nose is reminiscent of one of those old rough gravestones that are nearly dissolved where they stand.

My small ailments lead me to the much larger ones at Nationwide Children's Hospital. Today in clinical my patient was a 16-year-old boy that had been in the hospital for nearly a month. I noticed from pictures on his walls that he played hockey. My step-brother, TJ, is pitching a pilot right now for a new show called "Hockey Towns" in which he is the host. Thanks to my iPod Touch and the wireless at Children's I was able to show him the show's trailer on YouTube. He enjoyed it, and that made me happy.

Here is the trailer:

We rise, and we dine

Yesterday Ryan and I decided to have breakfast out early this morning before each of us went to class. Lo and behold, the alarm goes off and we play the "Do you want to just go back to bed?" "I don't know, do you?" "I don't know...do you?" game. After going back and forth for a minute or two we finally wake up and head out.

The restaurant formerly known as Rise and Dine is our favorite. We love their eggs and homefries. we had a nice breakfast discussing how much technology has changed from when our grandparents were young.

Hair dye, cookies, and the letter W

Turns out I learned a few other things today. First, I was only kidding myself when I thought I could make a batch of chocolate chip cookies last a whole week. Second, "Hazelnut" by Natural Instincts does not darken my hair as much as I'd like it to.

Finally, it dawned on me today that by marrying Ryan I am getting a first class ticket to the back of the alphabet! I have been up front all my life with "Boyer" as my last name. Sure, I used to want to change my name simply because I didn't want the word "Boy" in it, but it's all I've ever known! I can always count on being in at least the top 5 whenever a group of people do something alphabetically.

In 8 months I'll have to get used to writing "Williams" when I sign my name. I think "Stephanie Williams" has a nice ring to it. Williams is a good solid name. Maybe people will start calling me "S-Dub"!

AA

I just got home from the AA meeting that I had to attend as part of a clinical assignment. It was really enlightening. I told the chairperson that I think anyone can take something away from a meeting like that, regardless of their walk of life. Most of the people in attendance were white middle-aged men, I'd say about 20% of the participants were women.

There was a gentleman there who shared that he was seeing his son today for the first time in 4 years, and he was nervous about it. I hope it goes well for him.

The meeting gave me some food for thought. It seems that most of our problems we create ourselves. Issues with other people can often come back to something inside. Earlier this year I said that my New Years resolution was to become the nicest person I know. I need to keep working at it.

A Dreary Monday

Good Morning. Ryan is off at school learning teethy things, and I am waiting for my coffee to brew.

I have to pick up some matchboxes today; I'm almost done with the paper overlays. Speaking of wedding, Ryan and I (per my idea), are going to do with many other couples do on the morning of the wedding. Since we may be getting ready in the same hotel, we are sending each other a gift before the pictures and ceremony. It will be a little surprise that we can open while we excitedly get ready. Something small, 20 dollars or less. My step-sister did this at her wedding in October and I liked it. I've already ordered Ryan's gift, and per the tracking site, it's in Illinois right now, making its way here.

Until next post.... :)

First Post!

Hello Everyone! More like hello to myself since no one is following this blog yet. This is my first real blog. I had a "Xanga" in high school, but I don't really count that one. I've enjoyed reading friends' blogs, especially Mallory's and my future-sister-in-law Nicole's.

Ryan and I are getting married in September, so I've been spending more time than I have to spare on wedding websites just browsing around. My mom and I have been doing the bulk of the planning, as Ryan is pretty busy with dental school.

Currently I'm working on little matchbox wedding favors. I'm stamping them out onto a sheet of scrapbook paper then fitting them around a match box.
I hope to post more soon. On Tuesday as part of a clinical assignment I am going to an AA meeting, so maybe I come back with some blog-worthy insight!
